Hello,
My name is Chris Mathews, and I am a Cinematography major at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Ever since I was a young kid I have been driven by stories: I read a ton of books, watched movies continuously, became enamored with video games, wrote short stories, and loved listening to music. It is because of these early inspirations that I eventually decided to make Film my career. It was in eighth grade, after grabbing my friend's Canon Powershot, that I finally created my first movie. The match was struck. I started following Youtube filmmakers, skipping lunches in highschool to watch online tutorials, working for free to learn programs/production, interning at Lighthouse Films in Wilmington, NC, and finally attending UNCSA. It has been a long road that is only the begginning of the struggle that many others have faced, but I am passionate about stories. I know that the journey will be tough, but it will also be the most enjoyable life I can imagine. I am so humbled by the people, productions, and opportunities that have taught me so much, and cannot be more thankful to work in an industry I love.
